The law governing maritime activities is as specialized and unique as the science of navigation. Rendigs has a comprehensive maritime practice with significant legal, transactional, legislative, and regulatory capabilities. Our knowledge and practical experience can be a valuable asset for any business or association related to the maritime industry.

Our admiralty and maritime practice group represents owners and operators in all major sectors of the maritime industry. Our clients include towing companies, barge lines, insurance companies, terminals, repair facilities, fleet owners, commercial dock operators, marinas, as well as shippers or other industries with maritime-related interests.

Rendigs team members have counseled and guided clients in maritime law for more than 20 years. Two of our attorneys are members of the prestigious Maritime Law Association of the United States and one is also a Proctor in Admiralty. Our attorneys have extensive litigation experience in state and federal courts in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Indiana.

Our attorneys assist clients with:

  • Representation in cases related to Jones Act and Longshore matters
  • Rapid response to severe accidents anywhere on the inland waterways, including Coast Guard investigation and citation
  • Counsel and defense of property damage and personal injury claims involving vessel collisions and allisions
  • Guidance and representation on all environmental issues including investigation and clean-up of major spills, Clean Water Act, and Qui Tam or "whistle blower" cases
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineering permits
  • Defense of cargo loss and damage cases
  • Assistance in drafting emergency response plans (for employers), tariff and bills of lading, and inland marine policies (for insurance companies)
  • Cargo loss
  • Coast Guard hearings

Because complex, high stakes maritime law issues can arise without warning and often require immediate response, it is advantageous to build a relationship with an experienced, proactive law firm in advance of a specific need. Our maritime law attorneys look forward to learning more about your business and objectives.
